FUCK, I though it was just another lucky meme but LISTEN. Since a week ago I was waiting a phone call to confirm me if I got a job or not in my university. Literally anyone that’s been following me for at least a few weeks knows that I make jokes about having a crush on Wrex from Mass Effect, and some of my friends can confirm I make jokes about other fictional dudes too.
But see, a lesbian joking around that they have a crush on or are attracted to fictional men (or even male celebrities) because they enjoy that character much more than they do other male characters, is completely different than saying lesbians can actually be attracted to men.
Here’s something: I joke around with my friend Jem that I am “secretly in love with him” and “straight, but only for you” and its funny because 1. He is actually, my ex boyfriend. 2. I have been told that I just “need to find the right man” and jokes like this are a coping method for these types of comments. 3. We’re both super gay.
Whereas the statement or belief that lesbians can be attracted to men is not only false, but fucking harmful to lesbians. “You’ll find the right man.” Is something most lesbians hear at least once in their life, it’s a terrible phrase, and by saying “Lesbians can be attracted to men.” You are aiding in and supporting that mindset!!
